Program Notes:

Adrift is inspired by the layered patterns of nature and life. The work unfolds through multiple musical streams, each shaped by recursive phrases that evoke growth, decay, and renewal. Moving at different rates, these streams form a unified sonic landscape that continually shifts in texture, clarity, and depth. The music moves in and out of focus as amorphous and more clearly defined rhythmic cells emerge and recede, mirroring the way we encounter the world through both passive awareness and attentive perception.

Adrift also meditates on the dualities that shape both nature and human experience: ebb and flow, growth and decay, tension and release. The piece was inspired as much by the natural world as by the ways we move through moments of strain, relief, and connection, and by how separate lives unfold simultaneously within a shared world.
